Consider Jesusmari

By Mari Hernandez-Tuten

Consider. Jesus.

These two words are packed with power and insight. When the Lord put them before me they stopped me in my busy ridden tracks. I love how God woos me to His presence ever so gently.  He places these two little words in the middle of my roller coaster of a life and just as I'm about to go down says, "Stop and consider me."

What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. Philippians 3:8a

In the midst of my problems, He whispers, "Consider me."

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds… James 1:2

In the midst of my joy-filled moments, he says, "Consider me."

Surely you have granted him unending blessings and made him glad with the joy of your presence. Psalm 21:6

In the midst of my stress, He reminds me to be anxious for nothing but bring all things to Him, "My precious child, stop. Stop! Stop and consider me."

I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. Romans 8:18

He challenges us to consider His beauty, power, holiness, strength, truth, sacrifice, love for you and for the least of these. Our hope and confidence comes from Him, so even now let's stop a moment to meditate on our Savior and focus our attention on our Redeemer

There have been many days when I wanted to quit this mom thing. This missionary thing. This being a good Christian thing. This good and patient wife thing. This be a kind friend thing.  Most of the time the reasons were selfish; other times it was because it was just too painfully hard.  In the midst of it all, He whispers and calls to me saying, "consider me." That has made all the difference, and it has kept me going when I wanted to give up.

I have the honor of working with young girls who are victims of human trafficking. The other day in one of my counseling sessions with one of His sweet precious girls, I began to feel overwhelmed for her. I wondered how in the world would the words that spilled out of my mouth, could really do anything for her.

With all my heart I wished to make it all better. I don't always feel this way as a counselor, but sitting there listening to her aching heart and watching her eyes swell up with tears, I ached for her. I honestly can't even begin to imagine what her life has been like. My compassion took over and drove me to want to make it all better, but I couldn't. I'm only human.

The Lord met me at that very instant and reminded me of His power, His grace, His healing--Consider Me. When I did consider Him, not only was I strong enough to continue but I was also able to guide her to His feet and in return challenge her to consider Jesus.

Here are a few ways you might consider Jesus:

  • pray
  • sing or recall praise songs
  • memorize verses
  • say "consider Jesus" out loud
  • journal your thoughts to God
  • give thanks for all your blessings

In the busyness and frustration of life, stop and consider Jesus today. Love Him…and love your neighbor as Jesus loves you.

A Word From James

I confess that my tendency is to jump before I think. To act or react before praying. To get overwhelmed before I remember who I am in Christ. Today I want to consider Jesus first. Yes, Jesus first. Is there some way FollowOne can help you, your children and your church more effectively use the blessings of God to serve lost and hurting people?
